MY GIRL Thanks Connie & Lois Two weeks later: “Justin? Please don’t hang up on me again. I just want to talk to you.” Sam
begged. She was very persistent, he’d give her that. He sighed and said, ”I don’t think we have anything to say to each other…and you definitely said enough on your last visit.” Behind him, Brian was feeding Bella her breakfast…or trying to. The baby would normally eat anything. She was like a bottomless pit…sort of like her father. Around Brian though, everything became a game for Bella so she refused to settle down and eat. Justin gave her a stern look and mouthed “behave” while he listened to Sam on the other line. “I’m sorry I acted so hasty before. I didn’t mean to be so insulting…but I just had to see Bella.” Sam said. “And now you’ve seen her.” Justin said coldly. He heard a sob and immediately felt guilty. He didn’t say anything though, just waited for her to compose herself. “Justin, please. I’m so sorry. Why can’t you just give me another chance? I don’t want to be separated from my niece…she’s all I have left of…Jaime.” Justin bit his lip. He looked at his daughter the very instant she threw her plastic spoon at Brian, giggling when she saw the mess she made in his hair. Justin sighed and conceded. “Ok.” Sam breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you so much. You’re a great father, Justin. I’m so sorry for what I said to you…and your brother.” “Yeah.” “So when can I see her?” “I don’t know…” “Is tonight ok? I…I haven’t seen her in two weeks…” “Tonight? Uhm…I guess so. I don’t think I’ve got anything planned.” She thanked him again and hung up. Justin hung up and stared at the phone for a few moments. He wondered if he had made the right decision as he started cleaning up. The sink was full of dirty dishes so he started loading the dishwasher. “Who was that on the phone?” Brian asked. He was using a napkin to get the food out of his hair. “Sam.” Justin told him quietly, anticipating an argument…which he got. “What the fuck did she want?” “What do you think?” Brian got off the chair and leaned against the counter next to Justin. Justin stopped what he was doing to glare at Brian and said, “It is not your house and yes, I invited her over.” He resumed loading the dishwasher. He heard Brian’s intake of breath, which was followed by, “Why the fuck would you do that? Tell me you’re joking? That woman came in here, insulted ME and then threatened to take my child and you’re inviting her back? Are you fucking crazy?” Justin slammed the dishwasher shut and put it on. “Calm down, Brian. She’s sorry, ok. She asked for a second chance…and I decided to give her one…just like I gave YOU a second chance.” Brian stiffened. He ignored the statement and said, “You should have run it by me first, Justin.” Justin glared at him. “Just like you "ran it by me" when you were fucking around behind my back?” The minute the words were out his mouth, Justin regretted saying them. He
knew Brian was sorry for what he did…he’d been trying especially hard these
past weeks to make it up to Justin. He felt like a fool. Brian sighed, obviously exasperated. “Christ, Justin! How many times do you want me to say I’m sorry?” “Until the pain goes away.” Justin stated softly. Brian sighed. “I didn’t mean for it to fucking happen.” “But it did. And nothing you can do or say can change that fact. For that, I hate you, Brian. I fucking hate you for making me feel this way.” Justin shouted, pulling his arm away when Brian tried to pull him into his arms. “Don’t touch me! You’re such a selfish prick sometimes! The only thing you care about is yourself and your fucking dick.” Brian rolled his eyes heavenward. “Enter the drama queen.” “Shut up!” Justin muttered. “Will you calm the fuck down?” “I AM CALM!” he enunciated each word. “Good. Now apologize.” “What the hell do I have to apologize for?” Justin shouted. Brian glared. “You don’t hate me. I’m not a selfish prick…and…alright, I’ll concede my dick means a lot to me.” Justin couldn’t help but smirk…but only for a moment. Then he put on his mean look again and said, “I am NOT apologizing.” It was only then that Justin noticed how quiet Bella was. She was staring at them with wide eyes, her little mouth trembling. Seconds later, she burst into tears. She absolutely hated when Brian and Justin argued. Justin lifted her from the highchair and tried to comfort her. “It’s ok piglet. Daddy’s not mad at Brian.” “Don’t lie to the kid. She’s not stupid.” Brian muttered. “Oh shut up! When she’s old enough, you can tell her the truth.” Brian sighed and walked over to where Justin was standing with Bella, rocking her gently. The wails were subduing slowly now. Brian leaned over, wiped at her tears and kissed her nose. “Don’t cry. Dada’s sorry for shouting. Your father’s a serious prick though.” “Brian!” Justin warned. “Well it’s the truth. You’re fucking crazy.” Justin gave him a cold look. “I must be. I’m still with you, aren’t I?” Bella stopped crying and put a hand on Justin’s mouth. “Kiss?” Justin groaned. Bella’s solution every time they argued was for them to kiss and makeup. Brian smiled. “Such a smart kid. She’s got to be mine.” Before Justin had a chance to respond, Brian’s mouth covered his. Brian expertly using his tongue to mate with Justin’s. Before he knew what was happening, Justin heard a moan escape his lips. Brian’s fingers raced through Justin’s blonde hair and returned to his chin to cup his lover’s face in his hands. Another moan was heard. “Fuck!” Both men pulled away immediately. “Oh no. This is all your fault Brian!” Justin muttered. Brian grinned sheepishly. He took Bella into his arms and gave her a peck on the cheek. “Fuck!” she repeated. “James Bella!” Justin warned. “Oh no, he’s going for the full name. You’re in trouble now, kid.” Brian joked as he tickled her toes. She giggled and started squirming in his arms. Brian followed Justin to the sofa and opted to lie on one end with his knees bent so Bella could play on his tummy. Justin sat on the other end; the TV guide is his hand. “So what time is that woman coming over?” Brian asked. “It’s for dinner so…I’d say…maybe seven?” “Does she still think I’m your brother?” Brian asked, laughter in his voice. Justin grinned. “She sure does.” Brian snorted. “We don’t even look fucking alike. She’s such a cunt.” Justin said nothing, his eyes searching the guide for something good to watch. After a few moments of silence, Brian cleared his throat and called his lover’s name. “Hmm?” Justin looked up at him. Brian put Bella on the floor to play with Hugo, her stuffed pig and pulled Justin on top of him. He kissed his partner’s head. “Do me a favour and….don’t expect too much tonight, ok.” Justin laughed. “What? I’m not-“ “I don’t want you to get hurt…or to start doubting yourself again…Bella belongs with us.” Justin smiled. “You’re so sweet at times.” Brian laughed and flared his nose. “Don’t tell anyone.” They kissed. When Justin pulled away, he said, “Stop worrying, Brian. Everything will be ok. I mean…what’s the worst that can happen?”
